Georg Pranger
Born in 1988, the Tyrolean musician completed his studies in bass trombone at the Mozarteum Salzburg and euphonium at the Leopold Mozart Center in Augsburg. He gained experience through numerous substitute positions with various orchestras in Austria and abroad, including the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck, Haydn Orchestra Bolzano-Trento, Munich Radio Orchestra, Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg, Festival Orchestra Carl Orff Festival, Orchestra of the Tyrolean Festival Erl, Ensemble Windkraft, Brass Band Fröschl Hall, Brass Connection Tirol, Brass Band Upper Austria, RET Brass Band, l’arpa festante Munich, Le Cornet Noir, among others.
In addition to his many freelance engagements as a trombonist in a wide variety of genres – from early music to contemporary music – he has always remained faithful to his secret passion: the euphonium. Since 2014, he has been the principal euphonium player of the R.E.T. Brass Band. In 2017, he became the first Austrian to graduate with a master’s degree in euphonium performance from the Leopold Mozart Center in Augsburg under the world-renowned euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead, earning distinction. Georg Pranger has made it his mission to elevate the status of the euphonium in Austria and pave the way for it to become a primary subject at Austrian music universities. To support this goal and promote his instrument, he organizes numerous workshops and solo recitals in addition to his solo performances with orchestras and brass bands. Since 2021, Georg Pranger has been not only a euphonium instructor at the Mozarteum Salzburg but also an exclusive partner of Besson London and Melton Meinl Weston. He thus became the first Austrian Besson Performing Artist in the company’s history!
